To Send a message, simply type your message in the "Message" area and hit "Return" or "Enter". The message will be automatically send to everyone in the room. You will see your message appear in the Message Display area, along with other chatter's responses.
When you want to leave the room, just select another link or hit the "Back" button on your browser's window.
Many of the settings discussed here are dependant on the owner of this Chat Room and how they have it configured. The following are the general settings for most rooms.

You may change your "Nickname" that is seen by everyone in this room by selecting the menu item "Change Name". A window will be presented in which you can type your new name. Hit the "OK" button and your new name will be sent to all users. Your new name will appear when you type another message.
You may change send a "Private" message that can only be seen by yourself and the person to whom you send the message. First select the name of the person you wish to send a private message from the list of users displayed on the right side of the Message Display area. Then select "Private Message" from the menu and a window will be displayed for you to type your message. Type your message and hit the "Return" key or the "OK" button. Your message will be sent to the person and it will be displayed in another color to differentiate the messages.
You may ignore messages sent by certain users by first selecting the name of the person you wish to ignore from the list of users displayed on the right side of the Message Display area. Then select "Ignore User" from the menu. A window will be displayed asking confirmation. Select from one of the three buttons: "Cancel", "Don't Ignore", or "Ignore". All future messages sent by this user will not be displayed in your message window until you once again select the user and choose the button "Don't Ignore".
You may Invite a person into a private room by first selecting the name of the person you wish to invite from the list of users displayed on the right side of the Message Display area. Then select "Private Room" from the menu. A window will be displayed asking for a message to send to the user inviting them to a room. This message is displayed only to the person you are inviting. The other person will receive a window with your message inviting them into a private room. They can either choose "Yes" or "No" in response to your invitation. If they choose "Yes", then both of you will be put into a private room where no one else can see what you are writing. You also have the option of "Canceling" the invitation.
You may manually play the "Announce" tone by selecting the menu item "Play Annouce Tone". This will play the same tone as that which is played when someone enters the room. This is useful for gaining someone's attention after some time has passed between responses. This can be disabled by the "Mute Enter Sound" menu setting.
You may set the color that is used for displaying your messages in the chat room. This color will be used with each message that you write and others in the chat room will see your messages in your chosen color. Once this option is selected, a small window will appear allowing you to select a color by moving the slider bars for each of the color components (Red, Green, and Blue) accordingly. Hitting "OK" will then use the new color selected in all future messages that you write. Hitting "Cancel" will not change your current message color.Settings

Selecting this menu item will set the chat room to ignore all "Tone" messages relating to people entering or leaving this room. This also mutes "tone" messages when another person selects the "Play Announce Tone" menu item to gain your attention. This is a personal setting and does not affect others in the room.
